Dr. William H. Durley was born the 3rd child of 5 to his parents, George Washington Durley & Eliza Ann Hunt Durley.

Dr. Durley's middle name is controversial. Some contend that his middle name was Henry, but according to the death certificate of his daughter, Ruie Durley Fore, his middle name is stated to be Hardy.

Dr. Durley was married twice.

His first wife was Elizabeth M. Ing whom he married 16 Aug 1866, in Gibson County, Tennessee and with whom Dr. Durley had 3 children, namely, Brice Durley (1867), Violet Elizabeth Durley (1870), and Frances, "Fannie", Durley (1874). Wife Elizabeth died early, just five and a half months after the birth of her 3rd child.

Dr. Durley's 2nd wife was, Zilphia Frances, "Zilphie", Altman whom he married on 23 Dec 1874, in Gibson County, Tennessee, and with whom he had 2 children: Carl Durley (1876), and Ruie Durley (1877).

Dr. Durley served his country of the Confederate States of America (CSA) as a 2nd Lieutenant with Douglass' Battalion, Partison Rangers, State of Tennessee.

Dr. Durley died in 1878.
