HENRY ANDREW COUCH was born on 14 January 1845 to Drury Couch (born: 1823 in Lawrence County, Alabama; died: 7 July 1898 in Cherokee County, Texas) and Mary Elizabeth Howell (born: 1823 in North Carolina; died: 1903 in Smith County, Texas).

Henry Andrew Couch came to Texas as a boy, about age 5, in a covered wagon from Mississippi, with his parents, Drury and Mary Howell Couch, in 1850.

Henry Andrew Couch married his second wife, Fannie (Fanny) Geneva Hardgrave on 29 August 1872 in Cherokee County, Texas (Source: Cherokee County, Texas, Marriage Records, Book F, Page 137.) Fannie Geneva Hardgrave was born on 27 October 1856 and died on 23 March 1941 in Kerens, Texas. Note 1 to this chapter gives information on Fannie's parents. Henry Andrew Couch's first wife was Ida Holder, whom he married on 12 November 1867 in Cherokee County, Texas, just a few years after returning from fighting in the Civil War. Henry Andrew Couch and Ida Holder had the following children:

(1) Mary Elizabeth (Mollie or Molly) Couch, born: 3 March 1868 (death certificate indicates she was born on 1 March 1869); died: 31 December 1955. Mollie Couch married John W. Cowan on 24 December 1885.
(2) Thomas William Couch, born on: 27 January 1871 in Griffin, Cherokee County, Texas; died on: 25 February 1907 in Van Zandt County, Texas. Thomas William Couch married his first wife, Ella Riggle, (b: 1874 in Hamilton County, Texas; d: 21 Mar 1897 in Hamilton County, TX) on 24 July 1892 in Hamilton County, Texas. Ella Riggle died on 21 Mar 1897, after the birth of their son, William Floyd Couch. Thomas William Couch married his second wife, May Pruitt, in Van Zandt County, Texas.

Ida Holder died on 1 October 1871 of post-partum depression. On 29 August 1872, Fannie Geneva Hardgrave and Henry Andrew Couch were married. Fannie Geneva Hardgrave and Henry Andrew Couch had the following children:

HENRY ANDREW COUCH was first buried in the Texas Historic Couch Family Cemetery on his farm in Cherokee County, Texas, next to his 1st wife, Ida Holder. After the death of his second wife, Fannie Geneva Hardgrave, his body and Civil War headstone marker were moved to the Kerns Cemetery and placed next to Fannie.
