Lawrence R. Aune, 89, Cook, passed away on Tuesday, July 20th, at the Cook Nursing Home. He was born on January 19, 1921, at Cusson; the son of Louis and Alma (Amundson) Aune.

The family moved to Linden Grove Township in 1929, where he attended school, then to Cook in 1933. Lawrence served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946 during World War II. He was an airplane crew chief, and served in India. On February 6, 1943, while stationed in Kansas City, Missouri, he married Lorraine. After his honorable discharge, they settled back in Cook. In 1975 they moved to Ranier, then to Lake Vermilion-Cook in 1981. He was a car man for the DW&P (Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific) Railway, retiring in 1983, with 25 years of service. Earlier he had owned a well drilling operation, and he and Lorraine owned and operated L & L Bakery in Cook from 1961 to 1972. Lorraine was well known for her creative cake decorating skills and Lawrence for his delicious peanut butter twists. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1757 and a dedicated Cook volunteer fireman for over 20 years. His family fondly recalls his hobbies as "doing a little bit of everything," and enjoying it. He loved swimming, enjoyed fishing, and was one of the founding members of the Cook Timberwolves Snowmobile Club. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Lawrence had been residing at the Cook Community Nursing Home for the past 3 years. He will be immensely missed by his family, although they do take great comfort in knowing he has been reunited with the love of his life, Lorraine.

He is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 67 years, Lorraine on January 25, 2010; 3 brothers: Palmer and Olaf Aune, who both died in youth, and George Aune, who died in Okinawa, during World War II.

Lawrence is survived by his four sons; 2 brothers; one sister; 11 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Interment will be in the Cook Community Cemetery.

Arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook
