Bob loved outdoor sports & the lake.
He looked forward to camping out,
fishing & hunting. Bob took great
pride in his work & backhoe business.
He also had a dive shop & had a tank
for the big catfish, some weighing
30 to 50 lbs. He would noodle & catch
them, enjoying it very much.
Bob had served as Mayor of Langley,
Bobby Ray was in the armed forces & was
stationed in Seoul, Korea. This was at the
end of the conflict. Bob, was head
of one of the fire departments and was
overseas about 16 months. At this time
Bob was a Corporal, later, becoming a Sargent.
He was awarded with the Excellent Marksman
Another solider from the Lake Center district,
Corporal Jack Thomas, was stationed close by
& the two spent several week ends reminiscinig about
home.Corporal Jack Thomas had just begun his tour of
duty in Korea.
I remember the day Bob went to register in Miami,Oklahoma. He came back, excited
& disappointed because they didn't have a
record of his birth. Mom & I got in the car
& she went back up with him to get it
straightened out for him. That was the mixup
of him not being a Bobby Ray but a Robert Ray?
I think that was our Dad's kept secret. LOL
I still have letters that he wrote
to me while he was in the service....I had the Best Big Brother anyone could have had.
On the weekends, when he was still at home,
he would ride the school bus as far as it
would go, walk to Bitty Ma's & Papa's &
stayed with them on the farm. We would go
out on Sunday after church & pick him up.
He just loved being with Papa & helping him
with the farm chores.
I followed him everywhere, carried off his
tools when he was working on his
Model A, but he always watched out for me.
I'm blessed for being his little sister.
I truly miss him.
Bob became a Christian at an early age, he
was a member of the First Baptist Church,
Afton, Ottawa Co., Oklahoma. Cause of
death was Brain Cancer.
Bobby Ray loved life, lived it to the edge.
He loved & enjoyed his family & was a devoted son.
Mom & Dad was very proud of their son & his family.
