Benjamin Brown, a native of England came to the Grande Ronde Valley, about 1861 possible earlier, Brown had settled in Michigan upon arrival from England. He was one of the first settlers. And is credited for building the first house in La Grande. Surviving are his is his wife Frances (Kirk) Brown, Daughters; Esther Ann (Brown) Ellsworth, Ada F. (Brown) Walters, Alma (Brown) Conley, Fanny Brown, Carry (Brown) Garity.
