Milton Ira Holst was born 10 Jul 1900 in Red Wing, Goodhue Co., MN to Henry Holst and Minnie Lydia Santelman.
Milton Graduated from Red Wing High School in 1918, also University of Minnesota, LLB in 1924; Theta Chi;Phi Alpha Delta Fraternities.
Milton married Gladys Vivian Knudson on 26 Nov 1930 in Red Wing, MN. She was the daughter of Adolph Cornelius Knudson and Emma Erickson.
He was admitted to practice law by MN Supreme Court in 1924. He was the Goodhue Co. Attorney for many years; on the Library Board; & Gov't Appeal Agent for Sective Service Law. During WW I he enlisted in SATC, Univ. of MN; American Legion Post 54; member Co. Attorneys Assn.; SE Minnesota Peace Officers Assn.; MN State Bar Assn; Junior Chamber of Commerce; Univ. of Minn. Alumni Assn, Pres. for Goodhue Co., YMCA; BPOE 845, past Exalted Ruler; Member of First Methodist Church; Member of Board of Directors of Red Wing Potteries; and served 12 years as a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Red Wing. He was a member of the board of the Carnegie-Lawther Library Board for 17 years.
Milton was a member of the PTA of Red Wing High School and was for many years, on the Citizens Committee for the Red Wing Training School. He was active in theatrical productions in Red Wing as a member of the Attic Players.
On 1 Jan 1935, Milton Holst and Arnold vogel established an office in the Gladstone building in Red Wing, with independent practices. Milton became the Goodhue County Attorney in 1935.
In 1952 Milton formed partnership with Arnold Vogel, Clifford Erickson, and Charles Richardson. This law firm continued until Erickson died in 1959. Milton retired as Co. Attn. in 1954.
In 1968 Thomas Erdmann and George Vogel were admitted to the Bar, both of whom were to later join the firm of Holst and Vogel. Thomas Erdmann became Milton Holsts son in law, when he married his daughter Gale Margaret Holst on 9 Sep 1961.
Milton died 28 Jan 1985 at the age of 85 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Gladys; daughter, Gale Margaret (Thomas) Erdmann; grandchildren, James and Kathryn Erdmann; sister Goldie Viola Holst, all of Red Wing.
Milton was predeceased by his parents.
