"TENINO -- Longtime Tenino resident and Bronson's Resort Owner Donald Winthrop Bronson, 87, died of natural causes at his Offut Lake home Friday.

Despite her father's death, Julie Bronson said the family will proceed with plans to welcome the community for the Bronson's Resort clubhouse restoration fun-raiser Saturday. 'We couldn't have planned things this way, but it is all in God's time.' Julie Bronson said, 'The fund-raiser will be a way to commemorate my dad's life and the resort.'

Bronson was known as a strong Christian family man and is remembered by family and friends for his enjoyment of life, music, dancing and outdoor activities.

Born May 22, 1912, in Centralia to Winthrop and Lola (Brown) Bronson, Donald Bronson grew up at the family's Offut Lake resort. He attended Tenino High School and pitched for the school's baseball team. He graduated in 1929, and later attended Washington State University in Pullman.

On June 10, 1940, he married Phyllis Rolle. During World War II, the couple lived in the Seattle area, and Bronson worked for the Boeing Co. in Renton. In 1846, they moved back to Offut Lake, and he became the production manager for General Metalcraft, Inc., in Tumwater and later Milwaukee, Ore. He retired after 20 years with the company and spent his retirement at Offut Lake, fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating.

Bronson is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and three children, Bill Bronson, 57, Richard Bronson, 51, and Julie Bronson, 58, all of Tenino, as well as eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Julie Bronson said her dad was a member of Tenino First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar to big band and church music. 'He loved hymns, especially Amazing Grace,' she said.

There will be a visitation between 3 and 7 p.m. today at Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary, 205 W. Pine St., Centralia. Also, a graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Washington Lawn Cemetery in Centralia, and a memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Tenino First Presbyterian Church in Tenino."
