TERRE HAUTE — James R. O'Bannon, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Tarpon Springs, on Feb. 24, 2010. He was born in Terre Haute, on May 22, 1948, to Kenneth and Arvada O'Bannon.
He is survived by his mother; brother, Dan O'Bannon; sister, Debbie Haynes; nephew, Chris Haynes; niece, Heather Haynes-Savage; and special friend and confidant, DOT. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth O'Bannon; and his beloved pet, Zeke.
James known to most people as Nick, was a 1966 graduate of Wiley High School and attended Indiana State University in the late 60s and early 70s, could be seen driving around town in his Packard Hearse transporting music equipment for the bands, The Madras and The Soul Messengers. Later his choice of transportation was motorcycles.
James was a well-known past employee of Conservatory of Music in Terre Haute for many years. Music was an essential part of his life. James also was an avid artist and photographer. After moving to Florida in the 1980s, James was employed with the U.S. Post Office in Tampa, Fla., till the time of his death. Nick also had a music store on eBay, which was rated very high and kept him very busy with customers all over the world.
