Earl Eugene Hughes, Sr.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 P.M. monday at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel for Earl Eugene Hughes, 1603 S. Cochran St., with the Rev. Earl Mooney of American Baptist Missiom officiating. Burial will take place Tuesday in Hunt Japonica Cemetery, Hunt , Texas, under the directionof Giffin Funeral Home.
Hughes, 78, died Thursday in Seminole,Texas. He was born June 4, 1913, in Poteau, Oklahoma. He married the former Doris M. powell on March 5, 1938, in Edinburg, Texas. The couple moved to Hobbs in 1954 from Kerrville, Texas.
Hughes retired from Enron-Northern Natural Gas Company in 1977 as a maintenance technician. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Lowell and louise Hughes of Hobbs, and Earl Eugene, Jr. and Rebecca Hughes of Lodi. Calif.; six daughters: Mrs. John (Earlene) Fontenot of Walker, La., Mrs. Lionel (Glenda) Fontenot of Denham Springs, La., Nelda Sue Burke of Hobbs, Mrs. Dee (Gayle) Sanders of Hobbs, Debra Wheeler of Seminole, Texas, and Mrs. Aubrey (Francella) Hunt of Seminole; two sisters, Ethel Inez Sweeten, and Ida Marie Fuller, Both of Edinburg, Texas; 29 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Sherry Ann Hughes, preceded him in death in 1945.
