John H. Baker was born in Eastern Tenneessee in the year 1850 and died August 29, 1923 aged 72 years, 10 months and 6 days.
He moved with his parents to Taney County when only 10 months and 6 days old and the remainder of his life has been spent mostly in Taney and Christian Counties.
He was married when quite young to Miss Betty Hammond and to this union nineteen children were born, seven of whom preceded him in death.
He leaves his wife and six sons, George, Leonard and Ashel Baker of the home place, Wiley and Albert Baker of Oklahoma and William Baker of Kansas and six daughters, Mrs. Sarah Davidson of the home place, Mrs. Martha Morgan of Garber, MO., Mrs. Rosa Bebee and Mrs. Louisa Morgan of Oklahoma, Mrs. Nezzie McTeer of Ark., and Mrs. Missouri Comstock of Kansas and about thirty-four grand-children and four great-grandchildren. Two sons and four daughters were absent at the funeral.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. O.F. Snow at the Swan Cemetery where the relatives and a host of sympathizing friends had gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased.
"Uncle John" as he was called by many friends was a good neighbor and loved by all who knew him. He was kindhearted and generous, always ready to help those in need or in a suffering condition.
