Lloyd E. Clark, 83, of Brethren Village and formerly of Smoketown, PA passed away peacefully on August 12, 2014. He and his wife, Arlene (Bare), celebrated 62 years of marriage on June 28. He will be missed by his children Donna Clark of Intercourse, Debbie Nixon married to Bob Nixon of Stevens and Fred Clark married to Beth (Biechler) Clark of Lancaster. Lloyd was greatly loved by 4 grandchildren, Michael Nixon who is engaged to Heather Kopenhaver of Ephrata, Melissa wife of Rob Aument of Manheim, Audrey wife of LCDR Andrew McClune of Jacksonville, Florida and L. Gene Clark of Lancaster. Lloyd is blessed with 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Glenn Clark Sr. of Ronks and Donald Clark of Lancaster. Born in Kinzers, he was the eldest son of the late Granville and Esther Denlinger Clark.
Lloyd was a member of the Intercourse United Methodist Church where he served in many ways including trimming the shrubs and auditing the books. After moving to Brethren Village 5 years ago, he and Arlene regularly attended Long United Methodist Church in Neffsville.
He graduated from Paradise High School and worked with his father and brothers as an electrician until his 40th birthday. He and his brother Glenn began their own contracting business, G/L Clark Associates, in 1971, and Lloyd was president until 1993. Lloyd was a board member and active supporter of Associated Builders and Contractors. The company became an umbrella for Clark Mechanical Services, Inc., Clark Service and Parts, Calumet Enterprises, Clark Fire Protection, Clark Food Service Equipment, Noble Chemical, The Restaurant Store, WEBstaurant Store, Clark Turnkey Solutions, Clark Convenience Store Products, Eco Energy, 11400 Inc. and Clark Florida.
After retiring, Lloyd didn’t stop working. He is a master pruner. Lloyd maintained family and business landscaping. He and his trusty Felco tamed thousands of bushes over the years. If there was nothing to trim, he would find something to fix unless it was berry or nut season. Over the years, Lloyd found secret hedgerows and spots that supplied him with blueberries and raspberries that he shared with family and friends. When berry season was over, he would look forward to nuts in the fall. He spent many winter days cracking the nuts he found here and in Sullivan County.
Always a hunter and outdoorsman, Lloyd loved his cabin in Sullivan County. Using only Pennsylvania logs, he fulfilled a dream by building a log cabin the old fashioned way. There was a tract of land close to the cabin that was hit hard by gypsy moths. Lloyd brought the forest back to life by planting hundreds of trees, building trails and maintaining them. Lloyd could name every tree and flower on the mountain. He was very proud to have bagged a turkey each of the last 11 years. Fishing in the lake was a perfect end to the day. He built a wonderful place which has very special memories for his family and friends.
Lloyd was a member of the Bird In Hand Sertoma Club. He held offices and won some awards; but what mattered to him were the lifetime friendships he found there. The club, until it disbanded, raised money for local causes by chopping firewood and having an auction each year. He was also a member of the Lancaster Lodge #43 F. & A.M. and Rajah Shrine.
Another hobby was his collectible cars. Lloyd enjoyed attending car shows and polishing the cars. His favorite was a 65 T-Bird convertible. Lloyd was pleasantly surprised it found a home in Germany.
