Samuel was one of the first men in the nation to actually own a mummy and had it put on display at the Louisville Free Public Library. The mummy is currently on display at the Louisville Science Center.

Samuel's wife was , Sunshine Harris , and the couple were wed on January the 25th , 1883. Together they had 4 children. Sadly however , only 1 of their children would survive into adulthood.
