Fifteenth Regiment, New Hampshire Volunteers
Hiram S. Baker age 27, of climatic fever, on steamer "City of Madison," while en route for home, six m iles above Memphis, Tn. and buried on the Tennessee shore on a high bluff under a large tree. The burial took place while the boat lay too for repairs. Date of death and burial, August 1, 1863. He died in the forenoon at ten o'clock.
Remains of the dead were removed from their graves in the surrounding areas and moved to the National Cemetery.
