Jacob Tharpe Fridley was a son of Jacob Fridley and Nancy Ann Hite Fridley. He immigrated from Ross Co., Ohio, to Muscatine in 1843 (probably with parents). He married Harriet Surrilda Mounts, daughter of Hugh Mounts and Elizabeth Stinnet.

Mr. Jacob Tharpe Fridley was born in Augusta Co., Virginia, March 27, 1820. He was united in marriage to Harriet Surrilda Mounts Aug. 14, 1851 and has made Scott Co. his home ever since. He died May 31, 1892, aged 72 years, 2 mos. and 4 days. He was the father of 12 children; 8 girls and 4 boys. He leaves his wife and 8 children, one sister and 3 brothers. He suffered for 12 years, was confined to his bed since March until death relieved him of his suffering. He was baptized in the Methodist Church when a child and has since believed in church.
