Kate McNeil, only daughter of William and Jane McNeil was born at Jackson Center, Mercer County, Penn, December 6, 1872. She came with her parents and brothers to Cable in 1884 where she grew to womanhood

She was married to Jess Holliday on March 16 1898.They lived for a time in Griffin, later moving to Sherrard and finally to the home where she passed away, November 10, 1926.

"Aunt Kate" as she was affectionally called by many, was a devoted wife, a kind and loving mother, a true friend and neighbor, often going beyond her strength to aid someone. She was an unusually broad minded, kind and generous hearted lady, always looking for the good and doing all with in her power. Every ready with a kind work and help where most needed. Mrs. Holliday was a firm believer in her Saviour, always striving to follow the "Golden Rule."

The only daughter, Mabel, passed from this life seven years ago. Since then Mrs. Holliday has not been well, though seldom complained, nor said much about her health but was over thoughtful of her dear ones.

She leaves to mourn her going, the kind and faithful husband, one son, James, his wife and little girl, Janet of East Moline; five brothers, sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews besides countless friends. Mrs Holliday had a large circle of friends and will be sadly missed by everyone. It is hard to understand just why she should be called so young, but this we know, God doeth all things well.

Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 pm on Friday, Rev. C.E. Hoff of Sherrard officiating.

The following trio from Sherrard rendered several beautiful songs, Mrs. John E. Nelson, Mrs. Ben Kettering and Mrs. Victor Swanson.

The pall bearers were: John McNeil (her brother), George McNeil (her brother), Walter McNeil (her brother), Luther McNeil (her nephew, John's son), Tom McNeil (her brother) and Leslie Ralston (her nephew, Mary Arilla Holliday Ralston son). Internment took place in the Swedona Cemetery. (She shares a stone with her husband and daughter)
