Son of Hezekiah Abney and Elizabeth Sylvester. Married Mary Humble 20 May 1868 in Hamilton County, IN. Together they had two children: Cora and Flora. William then married Freelove Castor on 2 Aug 1886. They had a daughter named Myrtle.
WILLIAM ABNEY DIES AT LAPEL
Funeral Elderly Resident on Wednesday
LAPEL, Ind., Oct. 19 - William Abney, age 87, died Sunday night following an illness of nineteen months since he suffered a fractured hip falling in his home. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the United Brethren church by Rev. O. F. Lydy. Burial will be at Brookside cemetery. Surviving are a brother, Elisha Abney, of Fishersburg, two grandchildren, Mrs. Lola Winklemyer, of Anderson, Orville Gwinn of Detroit; a great grandson, Bobby Winklemeyer of Anderson, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Abney was a civil war veteran, serving in Company E 34th Indiana Infantry during the four years of war. He was born in Hamilton county but coming to Lapel six years ago.
