Was thrice married and had known children by his 2nd and 3rd wives. In the January 1920 census Thomas was living separate from his 3rd wife, Catherine May Frith, with their children divided between two households. Catherine was residing with the family of her son Frank Raymond Fawcett by her first husband, Branson Fawcett.

"T. J. McKnight was born in 1850 in Gentry county, Missouri, and died December 16, 1921 at 71 years of age. Mr. McKnight was a member of the Church of God at Arkansas City for several years, but since comning to Ponca City has attended the Pentecostal church and taken an active part in Sunday school work. He leaves a wife, seven children, one grand daughter, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held at the McCarty chapel at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. K. Jollitt conducting the services. Burial was made in the Odd Fellow cemetery."
