George Hiram McKnight, youngest known child of Christopher Franklin McKnight and Rebecca Napier, b. July 10, 1867 at Gentry County, MO. He d. Sept. 13, 1959 at Glencoe, OK.

In the June 1880 federal census, the family of "C. McKnight" and his wife "Rebeka" was residing at Sedan Twp, Chautauqua County, KS. In the 1 March 1885 Kansas State census of that same county, the widow Rebecca McKnight was the head of her family residing with sons Charles Franklin and George Hiram, and dau. Mary Amanda. In the 1 March 1895 Kansas State census, the widow Rebecca and youngest son George had moved to the west adjoining county of Cowley and were residing together at Arkansas City, KS.

George Hiram McKnight m. Margaret Lillian Barker on Oct. 19, 1896 presumably at Cowley County, KS. Margaret's parents, Allen M. and Susan Frances (Jones) Barker, were residing in the March 1895 Kansas State census at Cowley County. That enumeration included dau. Margaret, then age 15, in their household.

George and Margaret, latter more often referred to as Lillian in federal censuses, cannot be found in the 1900 federal census at either Kansas or present-day Oklahoma, or in the 1905 Kansas State census. In the April 1910 federal census enumeration this McKnight family is depicted as:

In the April 29, 1910 enumeration of the 3rd ward of Arkansas City, Cowley, KS, ED 47, sheet 25B, line 54, dwelling 391 and household 451, residing at 1210 South 3rd Street, the children grouped by sons then daughters in descending age order (the children have been rearranged here in actual chronological order):

George, Son, M, 5, OK, MO, KY.
Everett, Son, M, 3, OK, MO, KY.
Ruby, Dau, F, 10/12, OK, MO, KY.

This family cannot be found in the 1915 or 1925 Kansas State census or in the 1920 federal census at Kansas or Oklahoma. However, the family reappears at Glencoe, Payne County, OK in the 1930 census.

George Hiram McKnight and Margaret Lillian Barker had nine children, two dying in infancy: Irma Leona, Ina Frances (d.y.), Lena Mae, George Allen, James Everett (d.y.), Ruby Esther Rachel, Leona Irene, Charles Thompson, and Ruth Jessie Ada.

George and Lillian are interred at Union Cemetery north of Glencoe just inside Pawnee County, OK.

The memorialist's interest in this family is with daughter Lena Mae McKnight.
