COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY - 08/15/2009
BAUMAN - Lucille Margaret, passed peacefully at home Friday, August 14, 2009. She was the fifth of eight children, born October 5, 1914 in Springfield, KY, to Sam & Jennie Catherine (Nally) Burns. With a natural thirst for education, she excelled in school. She delighted in motorcycle rides and weekend dances with friends at the tobacco warehouse. It was at that same warehouse that she spent many a season working the tobacco sales. She spent her adult life in Louisville, always speaking with fond memories of her work experiences at companies that included American Tobacco, Citizens Bank, and Aetna Oil Refinery. She made life long friends and met her future husband. On February 5, 1944, she married Albert J. Bauman Jr. and became a full-time homemaker. She gave birth to five baby boomers and managed her household with efficiency and grace. The 1950's, 60's and early 70's brought new challenges to her role as mother and homemaker, but Lucille's faith and resolve sustained her through changing and difficult times. She and Al, until his death in September, 2007, recited the rosary daily; prayer was the foundation of their relationship during the 63 years of their marriage. The choice to personally care for Lucille, under the guidance of her Hosparus team, during the last five months of her life, has made an indelible impression upon her children's lives. She was a joy and a blessing, endowing her strength of spirit to each of them in her own way. Lucille's children are Joe, John (Jana), Albert, Charlie, and Pam Eckert (Ronnie). The grandchildren, who filled her with delight, are Michele Bauman-Grant (Daryl), Joey (Courtney), Beth Mitchell (Tim), Michael, Jason (Hannah), Jessica Lamb (Dusty), Jared (Amanda), Josh, Julia, Jonathan, Erin, Zachary (Annie) and Stephen. She lived to see eight great-grandchildren and to know that another is on the way. Lucille leaves behind her devoted brother and sister-in-law, W.F. (Bill) and Mickey Burns, who lifted the family up with their visits, prayers and humorous anecdotes. She held dear to her heart several nieces and a nephew, including Don Nell Edelen, of Springfield. A very endearing thank you goes to each member of mom's Hosparus team, especially Joanie Prentice and Jamie Lewis-Roper - you kept us centered during this journey. Your continued encouragement, patience, and assistance, that enabled us to care for our mother to her last breath, will never be forgotten. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road, with burial following in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Kindly remember Lucille with an expression of sympathy to Hosparus of Louisville.
