Birth: Jan. 11, 1919
Death: Sep. 14, 2007

BAUMAN - Albert Joseph Jr., 88, of Louisville passed peacefully in the early hours of Friday, September 14, 2007. Born and raised in the west end of Louisville, Al attended Christ the King Grade School, St. Xavier and Manual High Schools. He attended U of L Speed Scientific School and used his knowledge and gift of engineering thro ughout his life. He worked at Aetna Oil Refinery during his college years. It was there that he met and fell head over heels in love with Lucille. A letter carrier and later post master of the Anchorage Post Office, he worked for the USPS from the 1950's until his retirement in 1978. He enjoyed putting in a full day's work and demonstrated a resilient work ethic which he lovingly passed on to his children who truly respected the man that he was. He encouraged them as well as those who worked under him with little morality stories, the most memorable and cherished being "the little engine that could". Al greatly enjoyed the outdoors and could be found tending to his yard from spring through fall. He and Lucille very much enjoyed the times they traveled throughout the U.S., having seen both coastlines and much in between. An avid reader, who enjoyed his crossword puzzles, he discussed current events and topics of interest with his children and friends. His homemade cookies were coveted by all. He had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother and her Son, crediting the many blessings of his life to the daily rosary he prayed with Lucille for all the days of their life together. He was a member of the St. Raphael Catholic community and assisted in the efforts of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Those who went before him were his parents, Albert Sr. and Bess Bauman and his only sibling Bill. He leaves behind his spouse of 63 blessed years, Lucille, whom he treasured and loved so dearly. The children they raised and nurtured are, Joe (Lana), John (Jana), Albert III, and Charlie Bauman and Pam Bauman Eckert (Ronnie). The grandchildren that he so cherished are Michele (Daryl), Joey (Courtney), Beth (Tim), Michael, Jason (Hannah), Jessica, Jared (Amanda), Joshua Albert, Julia, Jonathan, Erin, Zack, and Stephen. His great-grandchildren that he lived to see and know are Sage, Kaleigh, Bryce, Dominic and Christopher. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road, with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday. Memorial gifts may be sent to St. John Center, 700 E. Muhammad Ali Blvd., Louisville, Ky. 40202.
