Gloria Greer Richmond, 72, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at her home in Lumberton, Texas. Gloria was born in Mont Belvieu, Texas on March 4, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Robert Shearer Greer Sr. and Hazel Hodges Greer of Nederland, Texas.
Gloria graduated from Nederland High School in 1948. She received an Associate of Arts degree from Lamar University and graduated from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in 1951. Gloria's career as a Registered Nurse included Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, and as a School Nurse in the Lumberton Independent School District. In the late seventies, Gloria returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Liberal Studies & Nursing in 1979 from St. Edwards University, Austin, Texas.
Gloria maintained her nursing license throughout her life, attending continuing education classes each year and was active in her church and community, including Literacy Volunteers of America.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Bob & Hazel Greer, her sisters, Hazel Ruth Fuller, Irene Greer and Amy Shearer Greer, and brother, Robert Shearer Greer, Jr.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Woodcrest Methodist Church in Lumberton, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodcrest Methodist Church Choir in Lumberton, Texas.
