He was born December 4, 1922, in Wills Point to the late Cris and Nancy Whitaker Burnett, and was a lifelong resident. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, owned and operated Burnett's Drive-In Grocery Store in Wills Point for 33 years, and was a 59-year member of First Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 422. He was preceded in death by brothers, Leroy, Boston, and Woodrow Burnett; and sisters, Ola Hughes, Ora Earnhart and Lena Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Johnson Burnett, Wills Point; daughter, Ramona Oats, Wills Point; sons, Donn Burnett, R. P. "Pat" Burnett and Cris Burnett, all of Wills Point; and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers are Ben Goggans, Joey Lane, Ken Herrin, Keith Ragland, John Deen and Fred Baker. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Martin and Theo "Cotton" Miles.
