Mrs. Benjamin Falk, nee Mary Plonsky, died at her home in Washington street, this morning Sept 4, at one o'clock, aged 76 years. Death came very suddenly as Mrs. Falk was apparently in the best of health the evening previous and none of the family had any thought of so sorrowful a visitation. Mrs. Falk's sudden demise was indeed a complete shock to her family and is a deeply regretted by a host of friends throughout the community. Born in Gollup, West Prussia, the deceased came to America early in life and married William Bendel, who for many years was a prosperous merchant of Lafayette. Upon the death of Mr. Bendel, she married the late Benjamin Falk and succeeded in building up one of the largest and most successful business name under the title of the Falk Merchantile Co.
Mrs. Falk leaves eight children to mourn her death--Henry Bendel of New York, Sam Bendel of Lake Charles, I.B. Bendel, Mmes. M. Myers, F. Schmulen, S. B. Kahn and Emma Falk Levy of Lafayette.
Mrs. Falk was a lady of genial disposition, winning the love and esteem of all who knew her by her generous nature and charitable acts. To her family she was ever, an object of adoration and their sadden hearts feely than words can express, the loss of someone who was ever true and faithful in her dischargees and responsibilities. She was indeed a "mother of Israel" and her explemplary life and noble acts will long be cherished by her children as well as the community, generally.
The funeral will take place Monday Sept 6 at 5 o'clock in the Jewish cemetery to which all freinds and acquaintances are respectfully invited.
