Kern Jackson Sizemore was born 27 January 1902. Kern was the second child born to Hillery Walter and Ida Carter Sizemore in Pumpkin Valley, near Eidson, Hawkins County, TN.
As a young man, he rode a horse to Clinch School that had been established in the old Shiloh Church some miles away. He then made the move along with many of his family to Great Falls, SC for a couple of years around 1918 to find work in the cotton mills and they returned to Pumpkin Valley around 1920. He married Phoebe Ann Vanzant of Eidson in 1931 but the marriage was short lived. He then moved to Washington state and worked at Boeing Aircraft for several years and also later in Illinois. Later on he acquired a dairy farm near Morristown, TN where he and his second wife Gerthie Keaton lived for many years until retirement in the mid-1960s. They then sold their farm and bought a home on Magnolia Avenue in Morristown where they lived until Gerthie suffered a stroke and into a nursing home. Kern lived by himself for several years afterwards but due to his advanced age he accepted his brother Charlie's invitation to live with him in Kingsport, TN after Charlie's wife's death in 1994. Kern lived with Charlie about four years in surprisingly good health and even fell off a ladder picking apples and broke his arm but that hardly slowed him down. A couple of years later he fell in the yard and broke his hip. He amazingly survived the surgery but died of complications a few days later on 6 Nov. 1999 while at Wexford House at the age of 97.
