Bruce was the son of Glenn Conrad of New Ross and the late Darlene Pickering Conrad. He graduated from New Ross High School, and from Purdue University with a civil engineering degree. He served two years with the Army National Guard.
Bruce was an engineer and surveyor for INDOT, building many of the bridges in the area with the construction of interstates 74, 65 and 70. He worked in the development department until he moved to the job of district construction director in 2003. He retired in February 2009.
He was a member of Robert Turner Post American Legion in New Ross, the New Ross Conservation Club, National Muzzle Loaders Association, American Flyer S Gauge Train Club, Putnam County Coin Club, Montgomery County Woodworkers and Carvers, and Boy Scout Troop 326. He enjoyed trap shooting.
He married Sandy Shelton, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife and father are a son, Chris Conrad (wife: Katy) of Lafayette; a stepdaughter, Makay Adams (husband: Mike) of Galveston, Ind.; and a stepson, Pat Fellows of Chicago. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Hannah and Seth Conrad and Brandi Adams. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Evan Glenn Conrad.
