William Cook Sr. Died February 11th At 91 Years Of Age
William Cook, Sr., 91, long-time Uinta County resident, died Thursday in an Evanston hospital following a long illness.
He was born July 30, 1879 in New Brinsley, Nottinghamshire, England a son of George and Sarah Ann Watkinson Cook.
He married Harriet [Brown] Hutchinson Jan. 16, 1899 in Almy, Wyoming. He was a retired rancher, a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 4 and the United Mine Workers of America. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as a Sunday School superintendent and a counselor of the Hilliard Branch.
He was a former school board member, Uinta County Road supervisor, chairman of the wool committee, and a Ditch Rider for the Old Hilliard Ditch.
He is survived by his widow, Evanston; three sons: Ted and Arthur, Green River; Lawrence, Evanston; and six daughters; Mrs. Joseph (Elizabeth) Gilmore, Mrs. Kate Williams, Mrs. Joseph (Stella) Pierce, Evanston; Mrs. Walter (Florence) Goddard and Mrs. Lidio (Velma) Tomasini, Rock Springs; and Mrs. William (Ida) Lester, Riverton, Utah; 47 grandchildren, 100 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren; and a sister Mrs. Annie Dunning, Evanston.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. in the Evanston Third-Fourth ward chapel. Burial was in the Evanston I.O.O.F. Lodge Cemetery.
Note: Not included in the obituary were the names of his two sons who preceded him in death, William Brown Cook and Eugene Woodrow Cook. Also preceding him were his two brothers, Edwin and George Cook.
