William "Bill" Harbert, 82, of Worthington, passed away Sunday (Feb. 26, 2012).

He was born Dec. 2, 1929 on Harter Hill, a son of the late George Griffin and Agnes J. Wood Harbert.

Bill served his country in the U.S. Air Force, retiring with 23 years of honor­able service, serving during the Korean con­flict and one tour of duty in Vietnam. He retired with the rank of master staff sergeant. He then returned home to Marion County and worked for Mosebach Electric in Fairmont, retiring with more than 18 years of service. For the past 10 years, Bill has been a devoted and faithful employee of Hutson Funeral Home in Mannington and Farmington. He was a mem­ber of Lumberport Baptist Church, Disabled American Veterans Post 45, lifetime mem­ber, a former fireman with the Worthington Volunteer Fire Department, and was a former NRA instructor. Bill enjoyed taking long drives with his dear friend, Peggy, meals at the Cotton Patch, and meeting and greeting the many friends and acquaintances he met through the years.

Survivors include two sons, Gary L. Harbert and wife Cindy of Anderson, S.C., and Danny Harbert of Grafton; a daughter­in- law, Karen Harbert of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Richard Harbert and wife Dawn, Melissa Harbert, Steven Harbert and wife Angela, Mary Desirae McDonald, Cassie Holmes and Candace Westhead Motes; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in­law, Dorothy "Dottie" Harbert of Fairmont, Wanda Harbert of Worthington, and Shelby Keener of Worthington; several nieces, nephews and extended family; his special friend and compan­ion, Peggy Beveridge of Katy, and her family, Tammy Muzichuck and fiancé Donnie Wells, Terry Beveridge, Lilly and T.J. Beveridge, Hannah Muzichuck, Melissa and Mike Angelucci; his good friend, Vince McElwain; and his little buddy, "Hercules."

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Gerald, Ted, Ferrell, Paul and Phil Harbert; and one sister, Eva Parker.

Friends may call at Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 6-9 p.m. today and from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, where funer­al services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. Interment will be in Parrish Cemetery, Parrish Run. Full military hon­ors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
