Joyce Lee Hamilton, 69, of Henderson, N.C., passed away Thursday (Feb. 9, 2012) at her residence.
She had been in declining health for the past few years.
She was born June 10, 1942 in Birmingham, Ohio, a daughter of the late Joseph Lee and Georgia Marie Hamilton.
Joyce grew up in Mannington and graduated from Mannington High School in 1960. She was employed for 10 years at Westinghouse Electric and later went to LPN school and graduated in 1975 from United Technical Center, where she was secretary of her class.
She also achieved her training as a registered nurse from Fairmont State College in 1985 and was president of her class. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Henderson, N.C., and had previously taught Sunday school and was a member of the Woman's Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for Pet Friends, REINS, American Cancer Society, and was a member of several horse riding clubs in North Carolina and Marion County, including the Ponderosa Riding Club and Bunner's Ridge Riding Club. She loved owning and riding horses, her red convertible car, camping, crocheting, knitting, reading and her dog Scooter.
She is survived by her only son, Michael Todd Hamilton and daughter-in-law Megan of Benton's Ferry; two grandchildren, Brianna and Weylin Hamilton; one brother, Robert J. Hamilton and sister-in-law Carolynn of Colfax; two nephews, Robert S. Hamilton and his wife Kelly of Colfax, and Steven C. Hamilton and his companion Stephanie of Colfax; great-nephew, Sean; and her close friend of many years, David Bryan of Clarksburg. She will be sadly missed by all.
Friends and family may visit Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from noon to 4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor James W. "Bill" Preston officiating. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 122 S. High St., Morgantown, WV 26501, or to Pet Helpers Inc., 726 E. Park Ave., PMB 311, Fairmont, WV 26554.
