She was born Feb. 26, 1922, a daughter of the late Georgia Amanda McClain Douglass and Samuel Grover Douglass. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Robert Fleming Conaway, on July 2, 2011.

Mrs. Conaway retired from the C&P Telephone Co. with 44 years of service. After beginning as a telephone operator on both local and long-distance switchboards, she was promoted to supervisor and continued to move upward in the company, serving as a business office manager in Fairmont and as a service representative trainer throughout West Virginia. She retired after opening the first phone center stores at both the Fairmont and Morgantown malls. She was an 80-plus-year member of First Baptist Church of Fairmont and a past deacon, moderator and trustee for the church. Mrs. Conaway was also a member of the Bo-Con Book Club.

Survivors are her daughter, Sally Feltz and husband Joe Feltz of Fairmont; two sons, Dr. Howard Herschel Conaway of Little Rock, Ark., and Robert Fleming Conaway Jr. of Maricopa, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Robert J. Feltz of Washington, Pa., Laurel Mergenschroer of St. Augustine, Fla., Anne Conaway of Little Rock, Ark., and Keith, Erin and Sara Conaway of Phoenix, Ariz.; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by seven sisters, Sally Hood, Virginia Johns, Frankie Parrish, Winifred "Peggy" Kidd, Pauline Janes and Betty Augustine; as well as two brothers, Bill Douglass and David Douglass.

The family would like to thank the staff and personnel of the Arbors of Fairmont for their kindness and loving treatment of our mother. A special thank you also to Fayetta Evans, her caregiver for the last three years, for her loving companionship.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 901 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 901 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont.
