Norma Moody Besancon was the daughter of John Madison Moody born in Indiana, and Delia Boatner Moody born in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana. Norma was born in Midland Texas, where her family lived for several years before relocating to Eddy, N.M. by 1900 where her father was a livestock raiser. John M. Moody was an early sheep rancher in Midland (arriving soon after the RR came in 1881), but later entered the land speculation business as a real estate agent and was instrumental in the founding of the city of Midland in 1885.The city of Midland was founded on his former sheep ranch. In 1902 her father and family moved to Ft. Worth Texas where her father continued in the real estate business on the North side of the city. Norma as a young lady was civic minded and active in the Methodist Church, society events, classical music, and the temperance league as she grew up in Ft. Worth, Texas. She worked in her father's real estate business as a young woman. Her father died of a heart attack June 1911 while on a mining trip overseeing his interest in a mine in Newmire, Colorado. Her mother Delia Moody died in 1922 in Fort Worth, Texas. Norma married Clarke W. Besancon from New Orleans in 1913 and they had two sons, Moody and Victor Besancon. Norma moved to New Orleans with her husband in about 1920, but after the death of Clarke's mother in 1923 there, she and Clarke moved to San Antonio,Texas where Clarke died of a heart attack in 1929. He was a life insurance salesman. Victor joined the navy in 1936, and it is believed that Norma moved to California in ca 1937 to be close to him. She lived the rest of her life in California. Both of her sons were Career Navy Officers. She was cremated on 10/17/1974 by the Westcliff Mortuary at Los Angeles Odd Fellows Cemetery. Her ashes were buried with her half sister, Camille Mays Litcelle in the Westminster cemetery likely at a later date.
