Death Came to Mrs. Mary Williamson Sunday.
The death of Mrs. Mary Williamson occurred Sunday morning, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. W. Sinclair, after an illness which had confined her to her bed for but three days.
The funeral services were held at two o'clock, Monday afternoon, at the Methodist church, and were conducted by the Rev. J. C. Wilson, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment was in the Wellsville cemetery.
Mary Lamb was born in Butler county, Pennsylvania, December 2, 1824. She was united in marriage to John T. Williamson November 22, 1849. Five years after their marriage she with her husband moved to Indiana where they resided until 1880, when they came to Kansas. They resided near Wellsville and engaged in farming for five years, then moved to Mulvane, in Sedgwick county, where they continued their residence until the death of the husband, which occurred July 18, 1891. Mrs. Williamson has since made her home in Wellsville with her three children, A. P. Williamson and Mrs. A. W. Sinclair and Mrs. Alice Williamson, who survive. One sister is yet alive, Mrs. Hannah Thompson, of Attica, Ind., the only remaining member of a family of eight.
Mrs. Williamson was a life-long member of the Presbyterian church. Trained from childhood to love and cherish the principles of the Christ, she early developed those rich graces of the Nazarine, which characterized her life. She loved the pure, the good, the beautiful, and lived in the high altitude of thought and purpose, thus reflecting the transcendent beauty of a spirit-born soul radiating that inborn love in her home and community endearing her to all who knew her. Truly was the first commandment with promise verified in her life, "Remember thy Creater in the days of thy youth, that thy days may be long in the land." Although PA has a Butler Co., her parents resided in Butler Co., OH and census records show that she was born in OH.
Unfortunately, Mary's grave is not marked by a headstone. On a large monument, "Williamson" is on one side and "Sinclair" is on the other side. A diagram of Wellsville Cemetery Range 1, Lot 14, lists John T. in Grave 3 and Ambrose L. in Grave 4. No names are listed for Graves 1 and 2. Likely Mary is buried in Grave 2, next to her husband who is buried in Grave 3.
