Charles B Hemstead was born in Toronto,Ontario, Canada to Frederick Thomas and Elizabeth Liell Hemstead on 21 March 1892. He met and married "Dolly" Minnie Violet Chin on 25 July 1911. They were the parents of two sons, Gordon William and Robert Carson. Charles was a prominent businessman in the Toronto area. He owned several racing horses one in particular, Paolita, was the champion of the King's Plate in 1943. He was featured in several newspapers alongside his horse and its jockey and their trophy. He passed away 17 January 1961 at age 69. He is buried in the Toronto, Mount Pleasant cemetery.
