|Birth: ||Feb. 19, 1820|
South Carolina, USA
|Death: ||Aug. 13, 1915|
Bennett Adams was born 19 February 1827, according to the Sanford Adams Family Bible although his tombstone does read 19 February 1820. The Bible date more nearly matches the census records.
According to family tradition, when Bennett was seven years old his family moved from South Carolina to Fayette County, Georgia.
On 2 Dec 1849 Bennett married Mary Spradlin in Fayette County. They had fourteen children although several of them never made it past childhood.
Bennett Adams served in the Confederate Army, enlisting in August 1862 in the 5th Georgia Regiment, Company C. He surrendered at Washington Heights, South Carolina in April 1865. He received a pension from the State of Georgia for his service in the war.
Bennett was a member of The Grand Lodge of Georgia, the Mt. Ebal Lodge No. 169, Shackrag, Fayette County, Georgia. He was listed as a Junior Steward (office of the Lodge) in 1869, secretary in 1870 and 1871 and was the treasurer from 1875 to 1886. He was suspended from the Lodge in 1886; however, his tombstone bears a masonic emblem and his obituary says that he was buried with Masonic honors.
