His Mother made a promise to God, if baby Donald was allowed to live, he would grow up to serve the Lord as a minister. Donald fulfilled this promise years later. Donald was the second to youngest of six children. Henry Kenning Jr, Lawerence Kenning, Francenia Bina, and Irene Julief preceeded Donald in death leaving Leonard Kenning the only surving sibling. Donald was raised on the family farm near Pomeroy, Iowa. As a lad he loved to hunt and fish, He played the French horn in the High School Band and latter in the Navy band. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He was awarded several cerificates of perfect attendance in Sunday School. Donald graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1941. He joined the US Navy in 1943, and served during WWII. One of his favoriate stories to tell was, when he went to a basketball game in Fonda, Iowa and saw a redheaded girl walk in, wearing an orange sweater. She caught his eye and he had to meet her. The rest is history.

Donald was united in Holy matrimony to Loretta C Winebrinner on July 25, 1944, two days aftr his 21st birthday. Their union lasted 66 years until Loretta surrendered to the Lord On September 16th 2010. Their unit was fruitful and produced nine children, numerous grandchildren and one great-great grand child.

Donald graduated from college in Storm Lake Iowa, he taught chemisty, was an electrician, carpenter, He would bring us kids home "nickles" which were plugs from electrical boxes that he had installed. That was great fun. Donald later went to Iowa City where he attended the University of Iowa majoring in medicine. He later made the difficult decision to drop out giving up his life long dream to become a Docter.. Loretta was sick and needed his care. When his wife returned to better health, Donald moved to Fremont Nebraska, where he graduated from Lutheran Theological Cemenary with a Masters degree in Theology.
Donald served his Lord by ministering to many churches in Texas and Oklahoma.

Donald was the head of his household, his wife and children love him dearly. Daddy is truely missed and loved has touched the hearts of many. Donald was GREAT MAN. A man I am proud to call my Father.

Well done my good and faithful servant.
