Birth: 1837
Death: Jun. 4, 1884

Born Glasgow, Scotland; fought in the Crimean War, at the age of 17; later moved to America, where he enlisted as private, May 13, 1861, at New York City, in company H of the famed 79th New York Infantry ("Cameron's Highlanders"); served in the eastern theater of war; mustered out with his company on May 31, 1864; married Elizabeth Kilpatrick, at New York City, November 24, 1864; migrated to Queensland, Australia, arriving at Moreton Bay, Queensland, aboard the "Queen of the Colonies", October 14, 1866; moved to Dalby, a small town west of Brisbane, where he ran the Dalby Cordial Works, until his death from dropsy; after his death a probate was granted from his will, to John Shillito Jessop and William Wood, executors named in his will. [From the original research of the late Roy Parker of Sydney, with contributions by Barry Crompton of Melbourne and Bob Simpson of Beechworth, Victoria, and published, in 2000, in the volume, CIVIL WAR VETERANS IN AUSTRALIA, edited by Roy's daughter, Mrs. Virginia Crocker.]
