Rosario Paolo Campisano was born in Falerna, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy to Annunziato Maria and Girolama (Villella) Campisano. As a young man he made several trips to the U.S. to work in the Pennsylvania coal fields or as a fruit peddler in Louisville.
Rosario married in Falerna to Teresa Floro on the 19th of September 1908. His first born son, Annunziato "Al" was born in 1911 in Falerna. Al and Teresa joined Rosario in Louisville in 1921. Five more children were born in the U.S.: Mary, Salvadore, Frank, Guy, and Joan.
In later years, Rosario worked as a night watchman for the Denunzio Fruit Company. He died tragically in a fire at Denunzio's Christmas tree sales lot in 1943.
