Gerald M. Cooley, 93, Marysville, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at Cambridge Place Nursing Home in Marysville.
Cremation is planned, and family inurnment will be at a later date. Gerald Cooley was born July 30, 1917, at Brewster, the son of Guy M. and Faye P. Wagoner Cooley. He graduated from Hollenberg High School in 1936. He joined the Army in 1940. During World War II he served in North Africa and Sicily as part of Gen. George Patton's army. After being wounded in Sicily he returned to the states and continued to train troops until his discharge in 1945. In 1946 he married Virginia P. Throm. They later divorced. In 1972 he married Marguerite Hartley-Warnick. She died in 1994.
He had worked for farmers in the Blue Rapids and Frankfort areas. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was a life member of the George W. Hood Post 91 of the American Legion of Washington and VFW Post 7347 of Washington, where he was a past commander. He was a life member of the Purple Heart Veterans Association.
Survivors include his two daughters, Trudy Grein, Springfield, MO, and Paula Cooley-Lewis, Adrian, MI; a stepson, George Warnick, Beatrice; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
