It seems that perhaps the Benners were considered to be Plain People - Mennonites or Anabaptists. It was a custom on the Mennonites to settle up with previous children before marrying again. Therefore 15 June 1821 Peter received 50 acres from his father.
By 1860 the family had moved to Washington Twp (Peru post office) Miami Co IN.
