Shirley Ruth Morris Fergerson, age 74, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 16, 2009, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born in Independence, Missouri, on August 16, 1935, the daughter of Arthur and Ruth Herrick Richardson.
She grew up in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School. She then attended the Kansas City College of Commerce in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1952 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Evans, Sr. Unto this union three sons, Lawrence, Jr. James, and Charles, and one daughter, Emily, were born.
She made her home in Independence for many years. She owned and operated the Harmony Bar in Kansas City for ten years before moving to Warsaw, Missouri, in 1987. There she worked as a bartender at the Osage Hotel, the Harbor Lounge and the Dam Restaurant & Lounge. She retired in 2000 after a total of twenty-six years.
She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #217, the Bib Club, the Benton County Democrat Club, and the Warsaw Elks Lodge #2783.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother & father, her step-father & step-mother, two brothers, and her beloved daughter, Emily Jean Jacobsen.
She is survived by her loving and devoted companion, Bill Fergerson, of the home, seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri, with Bill Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Shawnee Cemetery near Warsaw. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Assembly of God Church in Osceola, Missouri, in care of the funeral home.
