MRS. J.M. McCARTY, EX-RESIDENT, DIES IN OREGON, MO., FRIDAY
Ermine Terrell McCarty, a former La Plata resident and member of the La Plata Presbyterian Church here since 1887, died Friday in Oregon, Missouri.
The daughter of Joel Jackson and Anna T. (Magee) Terrell, she was born near Macon, Apr. 13, 1867. The eldest of a family of five boys and three girls, she died at the age of 89.
In 1887 the family moved to La Plata. There, in August of that year she united with the Old Cumberland Presbyterian Church. There she met J.M. McCarty and they were married Apr. 25, 1888.
Two children were born to the union, Anna Elizabeth, now Mrs. Gordon Decker of Maitland, Missouri, and Marion Ellis, now deceased.
Mrs. McCarty was a charter member of the La Plata Camp No. 2865 R.N.A.. She was active in this society and the church for many years.
Her husband died June 2, 1933. In 1945, when her health began to fail, she went to live with her daughter near Maitland.
Her husband, parents, a son, and a granddaughter preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter; a granddaughter, Patricia Copeland of Wichita, Kansas; a grandson, John McCarty of Kansas City; one sister, Mrs. D.M. Griffin of Spokane, Washington; two great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at Mound City, Missouri. The body was brought to La Plata for services at the Christie Funeral Home. Burial was in the family lot in the La Plata Cemetery.
