He married Lillis Kroff on April 2, 1966, in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on December 4, 1984. Bert served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northwestern States Mission. After completing his mission, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Bert participated in five boat landings during World War II. Following his return to the States, he served as a military policeman until his honorable discharge.
After returning to Grand Junction, Colorado, he worked as a deputy sheriff. He later moved to Dugway Proving Grounds in Tooele County, Utah, where he worked as a security guard for 26 years. Following his retirement, he and Lillis moved to Tooele, Utah, for several years, later settling in the St. George area.
Bert and Lillis served their church for many years, working in the Extraction Program. They loved RV traveling. They visited most of the western states and coastline. Bert was an avid reader and enjoyed all types of music. Some of Bert's hobbies included snow skiing, hiking, and exploring. Bert and Lillis were constant companions who consistently served one another for 39 wonderful years.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 9, 2005, at 1:00 p.m., at the Washington 10th Branch Chapel, 700 E. Telegraph Rd., Washington, Utah, with a viewing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., prior to services, at the Chapel. Interment will be at the Washington City Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT (435) 673-2454.
