John Klaus arrived in America with his parents and siblings in 1846. He married Catherine King and to this union ten children were born.
August 1, 1868 John died in Medina, Kansas. His date of death was taken from notes in a Klaus Family Record at the Lecompton Museum.
There is no longer a tombstone marking John's grave in the private Klaus cemetary located on the land homesteaded by his parents in Lecompton, Kansas; however a recent tombstone was placed on the grounds in memory of John and his two brothers Frederick and William who are known to be resting there along with other family members now lying in unmarked graves.
