Elizabeth (Sulzen) Carlson, the fourth of Adolph and Susan (Klaus) Sulzen's children, was born January 9, 1865, in Lecompton, Kansas. She married Jacob Carlson December 30, 1890 at Big Springs, Kansas, and to this union six children were born:

Grace b. 10/10/1893
Mary b. 2/26/1899
Fredrick 3/21/1900
Marguerite 2/16/1902
Helen 5/19/1904

Lizzie lived in a house at the top of the hill on the SW corner of Woodson & Whitfield Street in Lecompton. This house was located directly across the street South of the blacksmith shop once owned by Lizzie's brother Robert. Following Robert's death in 1892 Lizzie's husband Jacob ran the blacksmith shop.

After Jacob Peter Carlson died in 1921, Lizzie married George Haines July 15, 1931 in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas.

Elizabeth died in 1957, and is resting in St. Peter's Cemetery at Big Springs, Kansas beside her first husband Jake, and their young son Raymond who died as a small child.

OBITUARY from the Topeka Daily Capital, Oct 6. 1957
"Mrs. Elizabeth Haines, 92, of 1225 MacVicar, died Sat. at a Topeka hospital. She was born at Lawrence and had lived in Topeka for seven years. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church at Big Springs. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Mary Orcutt of the home; Mrs. Grace Watts Lecompton; Mrs. Marguerite Peterson, Ottawa; and Mrs. Fred Tulles, 220 Central Park; a brother, Theodore Sulzen, Lecompton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Peters Catholic Church. Burial will be in Big Springs Catholic Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary.
