Inscription- Husband- Gone but not forgotten
Lincoln Democrat Sept 5 1940 Thursday
Floyd Adkins, 81, died of accidental injury at 10 oclock last Sunday morning near his home on Josh Branch, near Sias, Lincoln County. He had climbed a peach tree to gather some fruit for one of his daughters. Losing his balance, he fell to the ground, a distance of about 10 feet, striking his head against some object and fracturing his skull in the fall. He died almost instantly, speaking only a few words after his fall. Only a young grandson was with him at the time of the accident. Other member of the family, however, were near. All efforts to revive him proved futile. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, with Rev Ebb Cummings and Rev Andrew Adkins officiating, followed by burial in Golsberrry cemetery.
Mr Adkins was a lifelong residence of Lincoln county and was a highly respected citizen. He was a consistent Christian and the oldest member of the Methodist church of that community. He was married to Miss Victoria Adkins, who survives him. Other survivors are three sons, Wilbert of Bias, Everett of Palermo and Albert of St Albans; and four daughters, Mrs Esta Mullins and Mrs Lola Whitten of Sias, Mrs Martha Ann Russell of St Albans, and Mrs Tilda Stowers of Boone County. Another son, Robert G Adkins, was killed in action on the field of battle during the World War and was buried in France. Mr Garfield Adkins of Hamlin is a nephew.
A large number of Hamlin people attended the funeral.
Note: Robt G Adkins was buried in France, but later his body was bought home for burial in the Goldsbury Cemetery.
