Mary Elizabeth Stuessy, age 31, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 10, 2008, in Arlington, VA, at the Foreign Languages Institute, affiliated with the United States Department of State. At the time of her unexpected death, she was in the final stages of preparation to deploy to Mauritania in April 2008 as a diplomat with the Foreign Service. Mary was born on August 3, 1976, in Columbus, OH. She was the beloved daughter of Carol and David Dickson of Bryan, TX and Tod and Patricia Stuessy of Vienna, Austria. She leaves behind her brother, Alan Briscoe Stuessy; half-brothers, Martin and Daniel Stuessy; her grandmother, Barbara Parmalee Stuessy, of Lake Forest, IL; and step-siblings, Jessica, Wyatt, and Colin Dickson. Mary is the niece of two aunts and an uncle, Vicki Liebe, Shary Winkelmann, and Bill Liebe; and four cousins, Corey Mermis, Sara Winkelmann, George Liebe and Mike Liebe. Mary enjoyed an active high school career at Bryan High School and held leadership positions in the National Honor Society, the band, and the Academic Decathlon, having graduated in 1993. She was a graduate of The Ohio State University, having received both undergraduate and master's degrees in political science and communications, respectively. Mary claimed Columbus, OH as her permanent home, having been active in local civic activities, including the Franklin County Children Services Office, the Short North Neighborhood Association, and the Zoning Commission of the Ohio State University area of Columbus. Prior to joining the Foreign Service in April 2007, Mary was a Vice President of National City Bank and served as Branch Manager of the Neil Avenue branch. Mary taught piano lessons to many gifted children in Columbus and Chicago, enjoyed being a big sister with Lisa Lorraine to her Franklin County little sisters, and played the bells for King Avenue United Methodist Church. Mary loved her friends, her family, parties, piano recitals, and her country. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, March 16, 2008, from 5-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL on Zollinger Road. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2008, at King Avenue United Method Church, 299 King Ave. The Reverend Susan Kyser officiating. Interment Union Cemetery.
