"Francisco Ruiz Arvizu
February 19, 1930 - July 9, 2011
Francisco Ruiz Arvizu was born to Apolonio and Maria Arvizu on February 19, 1930 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico.
He passed away on July 9, 2011.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Arvizu, his only son Francisco V. Arvizu (Maura), three daughters, Norma Vasquez (Frank), Evelyn Arvizu-Sanchez (Ben) and Beatriz Fletcher (Craig); eight grandchildren and three great-granddaughters; two sisters, Alicia Thompson of Sierra Vista and Emma Sabin (Engel) of Tucson. He is also survived by Margaret Baldenegro (Michael) and Vivian "Teresita" Becerra (Todd), whom he loved as his own daughters.
He worked as a migrant worker in Mesa, Arizona where he met his wife, Ruth. They moved to Douglas where he worked for Phelps Dodge for 33 years as a motorman and raised his children. Francisco educated himself by reading on his own in English and Spanish. Due to his job it was difficult to take GED classes but by studying on his own he received the highest Arizona statewide GED results in 1971. Francisco was very intelligent, wise, loving, caring and a devoted husband and father who loved his family, including his nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply and greatly missed.
A Rosary for Francisco will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at St. Luke's Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011 also at St. Luke's Church with Father Robert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery."
