Son of George William Mather and Elvira Warren. On April 10 1860 he married Emily Rosina "Nellie" Thompson. Warren was wounded in action at the Battle of Cedar Creek, VA, on October 19, 1864. Surgeons amputated his left leg up to the thigh, then five days later transported him to Jarvis U.S. General Hospital in Baltimore. He died of complications from gangrene on Dec. 15, 1864.
The inscription on his tombstone is as follows:

DIED IN BALTIMORE
Dec. 15, 1864
AE. 28 y'rs.
"Rest thee Warren, sweetly rest
In calm and dreamless sleep

Thy image bright will keep."
