Ragna Sylvia Nienast, age 94, of Tomah, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Close to Home in Tomah, while under the care of Tomah Hospice.

Ragna was born February 13, 1915, in Bloomer, Wisconsin, to Rasmus and Sophie (Pederson) Mullen. She graduated from University of Wisconsin Stout in 1936 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. She married Alvin Nienast on April 12, 1941. Ragna taught Home Economics for 35 years, 33 of those years in Tomah.

She was a longtime member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was active for many years in Ruth Mission Circle, Lutheran Girl Pioneers, the DoEtts Homemakers, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Ragna loved time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She will be sadly missed.

She is survived by two daughters, Kären (Jim) Zingler and Kay Nienast, both of Tomah; four grandchildren, Scott (Cindy) Zingler, Kari (Dan) Daul, Christopher (Cindy) King and Kelli (Chris) Torkelson; nine great-grandchildren, Jake and Kailee Zingler, Brandon, Logan and Carson Daul, Samantha and Weston King and Connor and Kelsi Torkelson; a sister, Hazel Klund; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; a brother, Herbert; three sisters, Alice, Evelyn and Agnes.

Ragna remained faithful all the days of her life and has at last received her crown of glory.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah. Pastor Curt Backhaus will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 3:45 p.m. Beta Sigma Phi prayer service at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Family and friends are also invited for visitation on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
