Birth: Jan. 1, 1958, USA
Death: May 1, 2009
Wayne County
Indiana, USA

Randy L. Barnett, age 51, formerly of Connersville, died at 1:35 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at the home of his beloved Brother, Rick Barnett, in Centerville Township, Wayne County, Indiana, of cancer.

He was born January 1, 1958. It was stated that he was born in Akron, Ohio, but this is rather doubtful, as public directories for 1958, 1959, and 1960 list his parents as living in Muncie, Indiana with his Father, Gene Barnett working there.

Randy was one of four children born to Gene Oval Barnett and Bonnie Lee Bowman. His mother and father divorced before Randy entered his teen years. Randy's Mother, Bonnie, remarried, and moved from Akron, Ohio, with her second Husband, Herman Howard Schmidt, all four of the Barnett boys, as well as his own two children, James and Judy, to Centerville Township, Wayne County, Indiana.

Randy graduated from Centerville Senior High, Class of 1977. He attended Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, MIchigan where he earned an associate degree as a machinist. Upon graduation he worked in Texas and Michigan, later returning to Indiana, where for several years he worked as a journeyman machinist at Mac Machine of Connersville, Indiana and the Elevator Equipment Company of Richmond, Indiana.

Randy was an avid NASCAR fan and he enjoyed other sports, especially NFL football. He was a member of Sons of AMVETS in Connersville, Indiana and the Eagles Lodge in New Castle, Indiana.

He is survived by a Daughter, Nicole Saldana of Albion, Michigan; step-children, Michael and Jerrica Fuller, both of Michigan; a grandson, Jesse Saldana of Albion, Michigan; several step-grandchildren; three brothers: Darrell Barnett (of New Castle, Indiana), Gary and his Wife, Debbie (of Centerville, Indiana), Rick and his Wife, Rhonda (of Centerville, Indiana; a step-sister, Judy (Anastasia)and her Husband, Dr. John Topping of Vienna, Virginia, and several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very special pet dog, "Katee Girl".

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Gene Oval Barnett (who died in 1987 of cancer); mother, Bonnie Lee Bowman Barnett Schmidt Grubbs (who died in 1992); his step-father, Herman Howard Schmidt (who died in a vehicular accident in January of 1988 in Pennsylvania); and his step-brother, James William Allen Schmidt (who died in July of 2007 of cancer).

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home with Pastor Mal Gibson and Associate Pastor David Barnett, nephew of Randy, officiating. A Visitation was held at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.

Randy's family asked for memorial contributions to begiven to the AMVETS and the Fayette County Cancer Fund.
