Death: Oct. 24, 1944

Donald Barden was a member of D Company, 192nd Tank Battalion. He fought on Bataan during the open months of World War II in the Pacific. He began a Japanese POW when Bataan was surrendered to the Japanese. He was held as a POW in the Philippines until October 1944. On October 24, 1944, he was being transported to Japan when the "hell ship" he was on was sunk by an American submarine. The submarine's crew had no idea the ship was carrying POWs.
